Black Out // Magazine Design

Black Out is a Magazine celebrating African American culture. “DAMN.” is an issue which focuses on Hip Hop and it’s connection to the Black struggle. The artists covered in this magazine are influential black musicians who put black issues in the spotlight. The issue goes from the rough beginnings of Hip Hop in the late 80’s and early 90’s, when this kind of music was only excepted in the margins of society, to it’s glory days at the top of the charts. The magazine burrows from Rap music’s tendency to use references. Each chapter hints at the one before it and is connected by verses from the artists’ songs, giving the reader a feeling that one thing leads to another. While flipping through the pages, the reader can also listen to the specific songs referenced in the chapters, by scanning the Spotify QR codes to enjoy a more immersive experience.
