The Handbook // UI UX
“The Handbook” is a mobile app designed to assist visual communication students by providing them with all the resources they need in the palm of their hand. The app is split into categories- Inspiration, Printing, Designing Terms, Fonts and Tutorials. Each user has their own profile where he or she can store all of their interests. Using a sophisticated AI, the app studies the user and suggests new interests for the user to follow. “The Handbook” can also work as a social media platform, using it’s “confessions” feature where students can share experiences from their time studying with other visual communication students. Since the app’s target audience is first year students in visual communication I took inspiration for it’s design from the visual minimalist movement, De Stijl. I followed their use of primary colors and simplified compositions in order to give the students an app that would express the foundations of design as well as provide the basics for studying it. This led me to design an app with a unique look filled with right angels and straight lines that diverges from the usual look of mobile apps.
